This is an unofficial answer and should probably be confirmed by more official sources. I am an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and this is the "oral tradition" that I have heard on more than one occasion. My understanding is that Mr. Graham was a Presbyterian in his youth. When he felt God's call to become an evangelist, the Presbyterians (proably in the form of a regional governing body called a presbytery) would not ordain him to such a ministry, though I have never heard the reasons why. It might have ben related to seminary education, but that is speculation. Having been rejected by the Presbyterians, he was welcomed by the Baptists with open arms. As a side note related to his Presbyterian connection, Mr. Graham's brother-in-law Clayton Bell (Ruth Graham's brother) was the pastor of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas for many years.
