In Latin, the "J" is an "I". So on the crucifix you see "INRI". This is from
"I(J)esus Nazarei, Rex I(J)udiae"
Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
The Word inscribed I believe, was INRI. What was the inscription on the cross? Mark: "The King of the Jews" (xv, 26). Luke: "This is the King of the Jews" (xxiii, 38). Matthew: "This is Jesus the King of the Jews" (xxvii, 37). John: "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" (xix, 19). There was placed on the cross a certain inscription. According to Luke and John it appeared in Greek, Latin and Hebrew. Four divinely inspired historians attempt to report in Greek the exact words of this inscription. Yet no two of their reports agree. In Hebrew, it said Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. which in Hebrew, the first letters of each word are actually Y H V H which is the name of God. :):)
It is the Tabut or Ark in which the possessions of Prophet Moses and Aron were placed. God sent it to Jews to feel peace and calm down. it was the mark for Jews that their fellow Talut was the best choice to be their king and to gather them to fight king Galut who used to kill Jews and steal their lands.
(Matthew 27:37) Also, they posted above his head the charge against him, in writing: "This is Jesus the King of the Jews." (Luke 23:38) There was also an inscription over him: "This is the king of the Jews." (John 19:19) Pilate wrote a title also and put it on the torture stake. It was written: "Jesus the Naz‧a‧rene′ the King of the Jews." (Mark 15:26) And the inscription of the charge against him was written above, "The King of the Jews.
The sign on the Cross read, "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS." And it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. (John19:19-20). == == Mark 15:26 abbreviated the words to those used by all three: "The King of the Jews" Luke 23:38 would have used the Greek: "This is the King of the Jews" Matthew 27:37 would have used the Hebrew: "This is Jesus the King of the Jews" John 19:19 would have used the Latin: "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews"
