How did Mary meet Joseph?

An angel came down and told him that he was going to have a son that would be powerful. And he dreamed it too.

The Bible doesn't say how he found out, but the angel came to reassure him that Mary was not immoral. He already knew by then about her pregnancy because he was considering not marrying her.

Matthew makes this clear in the following verses. Joseph intended effectively to have a 'quiet divorce' since Mary was effectively already considered to be his wife. He did not wish her to get into trouble although one wonders how he really would have achieved this in that society.

This means he wanted to divorce his wife as he thought that she had cheated on him.
