Churches grow in membership when people join them. The only way to get people to come is to invite them.
The nuns would develop them and help them grow.
Because those were the centers of communities.
This is a practice where churches split, and a new church is formed and the old church along with the new church grow by recruiting new members

The spread of Baptist and Methodist churches in Georgia played a significant role in the state's growth by fostering community cohesion and providing social support. These churches often established schools and outreach programs, enhancing education and social services in the region. Additionally, their emphasis on evangelism attracted new settlers seeking religious freedom and a sense of belonging, contributing to population growth and economic development. The churches also played a role in shaping the cultural and moral framework of the state, influencing local governance and community values.
Other than Martin Luther, Calvin did because he was basically the person who started Calvinism which led to Puritans. Also the logic that in America we still like to save money and work hard came from Calvin.
During Reconstruction, the church played a significant role in the African American community, serving as a center for social, political, and religious activities. Churches were instrumental in advocating for civil rights and education for freed slaves. Additionally, many black churches provided assistance to newly freed individuals in terms of housing, employment, and support.
Permanently or daily? There are many churches that shut permanently, through a lack of congregation in a particular area where population has changed, just as there are many new churches that open daily to meet the spiritual needs of new population centres. Generally, as Christianity continues to grow in the world the number of new churches that are opening outnumbers those that are closing permanently. On a daily basis, churches open and close depending upon the situation. My own church, on the outskirts of a small town, is kept open all day for people to visit either for prayer or to look at its ancient and historic architecture. It is closed then at night. Some inner city churches are sadly closed during the daytime for security reasons only to open for services. This is a sad situation, but some churches, after having been vandalised several times, have reluctantly accepted that this is the only possible prevention. However, there are also many churches, especially in the countryside, that are open all the time for people to come in for shelter or prayer. When churches are left open any valuables likely to be stolen are removed to a secure place (eg the safe or a locked room) so that temptation is not put in the way of the would-be thief. However, for those visiting churches for the right reasons, to meet with God, this is unimportant; what IS important is that churches are left open whenever possible for all to enter and be welcome - no matter what time of day.

The best thing to do would be to either ask your parents, who would certainly know since they were there; or, ask the pastor of the Catholic parish that you grew up in. If you did not grow up in the Catholic Church, then simply consult the Catholic churches in your area.
