The US was more prepared, than some historians would like their students to believe. The US had reinstated the military draft well over one year before the Pearl Harbor attack; and had been geared up for war material production long before entering the war; producing tanks, ships, airplanes, rifles, machineguns, etc. to supply to Great Britain and Russia (USSR). In effect...the US was just waiting for the word (to enter the war) (which came in the form of the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec. 7, 1941).
