Another reply: Most religions believe in some sort of afterlife. According to most of these, you don't need to do anything to become immortal, you already are immortal. The question rather becomes, what should you do to get a head start in the afterlife, so to speak. In many religions, what happens to you in the afterlife is related to what you do, and in some cases believe, in this life.

Sadly immortality is not something anyone can obtain. This is based on the fact that we are made of the same decaying matter that everything else on our planet (and all other planets too) are made of.

Immortality is by definition " the ability to live forever". Humans nor animals (also other life outside of our galaxy if you belive in it) cannot live forever because the bodies of us and others must give out sooner or later. The reason humans die is because our organs and appendages eventally loose their the capability to do what they were designed to do.

A common rebuttle to solve this problem is the thought that we in the future will be able to substitute our current organs, made of tissue and such, with machinery. This is even not a solution because even if we had the capability to replace our organs, people forgot that are brain controls them and that is the one thing nothing can replace. Also since I mentioned the human brain, this is also not possible to substitute even with any type of computer technology, due to the fact that even in thousands of years, a brain will still be more advanced then any computer. (Also, even if we created a computer that has the capabilities, transferring all the information in a persons brain to the computer would be immpossible.)

Immortality is something you cannot obtain, but rather you can do things that will extend your life expectancy. Such as eating healthy, reducing stress, meditating, exercise and continually training your brain will make you live years longer.

For immortality first of all you have to become freed from the familiar order of this world. Deep spiritual practice is needed and the guidness of those who are immortals - the great spiritual teachers.

You don't really "have" it until you die. You will be immortal (def: cannot die) regardless of where you spend eternity. It is a personal relationship between an individual and God (based on acceptance of His Son Jesus Christ) that determines whether you go to heaven or hell. If you go to heaven, you will be "immortal" in the sense that you will be living forever. In hell, you will also be "immortal", but not in the same sense. You will be forever dying as opposed to forever living.

According to The Bible, immortality (eternal life) may be had "as God's gift" through Jesus Christ. (Rom.6:23)

Prophecy reveals a "Day of Judgment" is coming on the earth in which a "second death" is in the offing for those whom Jesus does not grant said "gift."

The Bible says that the "first death" men die is "appointed" to him from which we shall be resurrected (Heb.9:27)... and that it's the "second death" from which Jesus may save us.

Death and life are OPPOSITES... not the same thing. The "second death" is not "living" but being "eternally dead."

A young man once asked Jesus what he had to do to "have immortality"... and Jesus told him:

"...if thou wilt enter into life (have immortality), KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS." (Matt.19:17)
