there is a verse in The Bible that says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe with your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Lord means the one who gets to lead your life. If you decide to make Jesus the leader of your life (you just have to ask Him) and truly believe that He was killed because of the sin that we each commit but now He lives (though not on this earth), you are "saved" - which is what makes you a Christian.
So if you have made that choice and choose to walk that out in your life (though you don't have to be perfect) - then you can know that you are a Christian.

Catholic AnswerI could give you several answers to your questions, but, in the long run, only God knows who is really a Christian. We can look at a person and say "they are really leading a good Christian life", but, what we don't know, is that on the inside they are doing it all for show, to be thought highly of, and God is allowing them to work their way into hell as they have no regard for Him. Ditto with people who go to Church every Sunday. In my Church at home is an elderly woman who looks like a street person, but carries a list in your back pack of people that she is praying for every day. This woman is more Christian than you or I will ever manage to be. I would imagine that 99% to 100% of the people who see her write her off immediately and would hardly consider her a Christian. Bottom line, Our Blessed Lord told us not to worry about whether our neighbor was a Christian, but to worry about our own salvation. And the only way we can do that is to treat every single person in front of us as Jesus Christ, Himself, in person, needing our assistance. We are going to be judged on how we love and treat those people in front of us. Yes, we have to go to Church on Sunday, but that is not what is going to get us into heaven, that is going to give us the moral strength to go out and lead a Christian life, accepting the suffering that Our Lord sends, and bearing our crosses, and following after Him. How do you know if they are really Christian? You don't, and you're not supposed to, you're supposed to worry about whether you are really a Christian and pray, daily, on your knees, that today you may live as one.
