to be honest. I really dont think you do know... i usually just know when im doing something bad or when i do someting good i always feel like he is happy with me..
Additionally:
That's basically it... by "feel." It's sensed by the "Spirit" in us [if God has given it to us - Acts 2:38].
God has given us the "family structure" in this life to demonstrate to us our relationship to Him. He is our Father.
Any father is "pleased" with his children when they obey him... and heed his instructions to them for their sakes.
A father "loves" his children in any case... but he is not always "pleased" with them. The child who murders [extreme example] is a shame to his father... and great grief is spread abroad from which the entire family [and the whole world] suffers.
This is how it is with our Father in heaven. He is the Head of His household, He created us, He sets the rules -- and it's the "duty" of His Children "under His roof" to revere Him, respect Him, obey Him, and love Him [Eccle.12:13-14].
"Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."
Our Father is jealous [suspicious of rivals; protectively watchful] of His Children.
Any of His Children who "desire" to please their Father... and who "delight" in pleasing Him -- pleases Him... whether or not they are struggling along the way.
So, much of the "feeling" a child has regarding whether or not they "please" their parents -- the child already knows, if they reflect at all upon their own inner motives. If their motives are pure... it pleases the parent.
"For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body [the flesh], waging war against the law of my mind [spirit, heart, inner being] and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
"What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this [physical] body of death?
"Thanks be to God -- through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin." (Rom.7:22-25 NIV)
If God's Spirit is in you... and your desire is to please the Father... He knows it and has given us the way to succeed in our struggles to please Him -- though we stumble and fall, constantly. The key is not to "give up"... on yourself, nor the Father... nor on the Spirit within you, which He gave to you for that very purpose.
If God is pleased with you... you know it. Any kind of inner reflection on your part will tell you.
"For the Word of God is Living and Active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Heb.4:12 NIV)
The Spirit within you knows your motives... and tells you if you are pleasing your Father. Ohh... you know!
Of course! Happy is being pleased or elated happy is fun!!
He is happy for us. He doesn't intrinsically need our belief, but he is happy for those who do what is right and what is good for them.Similarly, a mother does not feel satiated when her child eats, but she is pleased that the child is benefiting.
