How does religion affect education?

Some believe that religion tends to hinder education by discouraging open examination of some scientific issues like evolution. It does this usually on the authority of religious scriptural material or long and widely held traditions. Religion is a very powerful thing. It is believed that religion restricts imagination and thinking. For things that cannot or have not yet been explained or things that are dangerously close to the "truth", some adherents of religion conclude that the answer will be found in religion and there is no need for further questioning. If you want to learn, you have to be open minded. Being religious is a personal choice but if you let it cloud your vision you may never really see what there is to see. All things are possible and only the impossible is impossible.

Well , what would you define as "education" ? I presume that you mean a typical schooling that takes place in western civilization , in countries like USA , UK , France , Norway etc ...We need to understand that definition , because that kind of an "education" is based in countries that prioritise humanitarianism greater than any kind of religion.Some might say for example that Norway is a Christian country , as we say that Iran is a Muslim country , in that context "education" clearly would be religiously biased...

In Islam human beings are taught that because they are Muslim they are superior to non Muslims , and that non Muslims will go to hell.Then of course this affects there ability to understand global standards such as humanitarianism.

In Christianity , they educate pupils in the belief that the whole of mankind {6 billion people} everyone's genealogy can be traced back to Adam & Eve who lived in a garden called Eden.Of course , this would disable pupils from believing in the fact of evolution , and other related sciences like DNA , carbon dating etc ...

A great deal actually. For example, the idea of public school is due almost entirely to the protestant (Christian) idea that everyone should be able to read. Prior to this, reading and education was relegated to only a few who could pay for the education in one way or another. The protestant idea was that everyone should be able to read so that everyone could know God personally through reading His Word (The Bible) so that they would not be dependent on priests to interpret and read the Bible to them.

I think that (I learned this in 8th grade) depending on what religion you are, the more (or less) serious they are about education. For example, in the original 13 colonies, the colonists were very strict about education, but their education was mainly on the Bible and its teachings. I hope this answers your question?!

Hindu students will not eat any cow byproduct or meat; so one would hope that the school cafeteria would provide a vegetarian or chicken option.

The same goes for Judaism, in which case pork is not kosher.

In schools requiring a uniform, the Burqa can cause potential stress or expulsion for young women who are Muslim. The Sikh turban can also result in suspension, or expulsion in some areas of North America.

Cleansing practices must also be observed, Muslims must wash their feet, hands, and face, three times a day to pray. One of the required praying times is twelve o'clock noon. Should a student have a class at this time, they must excuse themselves daily to complete their required religious practice.

One should also note how difficult it is to wash ones feet at a waist level sink. Some urban schools in Toronto Canada have taps specifically designed for the washing of feet to accommodate Islamic students.

Also, a sect of Christianity called "The Jehovah's Witness" do not believe in observing any form of political allegiance. It is against their religion to observe the national anthem, and students opt to wait in the halls outside their classrooms or to single themselves out by remaining seated while the rest of their peers observe their patriotism by standing. Jehovah's Witness also do not celebrate any form of holiday including but not exclusive to Birthdays and Christmas. This can cause tension in elementary years.

Our children were taught the Bible from infancy and they were at our Christian meetings as infants as well. Because of this they learned to read at an early age. We also have a school that teaches us all how to teach others about God's word the Bible. Because of this they also have learned to be good public speakers. So being taught from the Bible is very beneficial in all areas of a child's learning.

The influence of culture is different. In some more primitive cultures, there is a disincentive for children to aspire to be 'better' than their parents, limiting their options ofr education. Other cultures value education very highly and parents are willing to go to great lengths to ensure the success of their children at school and university.
