How does the Holy Spirit help the church be holy?

Since the fall in the Garden of Eden, mankind has been struggling to do it on his own, without the help of God. To his deep sorrow, these millennia have proven man's attempt futile.

In order to defeat the evil one - the god of this world - we need the help of God. Shortly after Jesus ascended into Heaven, the promise Helper/Comforter came back into the world since Eden. It is freely available to all who seek God's will to obey His Law. Jesus established God's Church on Pentecost when the Spirit came, for those members who repent and are baptized. They are begotten like Jesus was by the Spirit of God, aka the Spirit of Christ. They are now in Christ who is in the Father - future sons and daughters of the God Family.

The Sacraments of the Catholic Church are the primary means by which the Church guides and assists Christ's flock toward holiness. Those Catholics who faithfully, sincerely and frequently make "use" of the Sacraments will most assuredly grow in holiness step by step. It is through the Sacraments and prayer that we are able to join ourselves most closely to Our Lord. He recognized that we frail and weak humans would need help every step of the way which is why He provided us with the various "sacraments" -- the Eucharist and Reconciliation being the two most "active" sacraments since both of these can be availed of pretty much on a daily/weekly basis. Each time we receive a sacrament, we receive a "burst" of grace and that grace strengthens us in our faith and our ability to grow in holiness. Holiness is not something that is merely achieved. Rather, it is something that we must consistently strive to attain. It's a journey, not an end, in that holiness can be lost (or forfeited). Holiness must be continuously nurtured by/through obedience to God, out of Love for Our Lord not merely out of fear of the consequences. Also, to be truly holy, one must also be truly humble.

The Holy Spirit guides us to holiness. The Holy Spirit makes the truth clear to us, reminding us of Jesus' teaching, helping us to understand God's word, and helping us to do good and to avoid sin.

The Holy Spirit makes the church holy through the people that it lives in. The holy spirit is what provides christians with the fruits of the spirit and touches their lives. It make the church holy through the people it touches.
