In my opinion it has changed a lot.

It is now the only 'Open Prison' in the world. Israel is the Prison Governor and Warden.
It is also the testing ground for every USA newly developed arms: 'bunker buster' drones etc.

In terms of the land, it has developed since Jesus' time because of modern agronomic practices. In terms of politics, Palestine has undergone upwards of 10 different regime changes. It is currently divided between Israel, which is a democratic state for all of its citizens, and the Palestinian Territories which are under military occupation or blockade from Israel and partially administered by quasi-dictatorial Palestinian groups.
