Matthew Gospel presents Jesus as the great Teacher, who has the authority to interpret the Law of God, and who teaches about God's kingdom. Much of his teaching is gathered by subject matter into five collections. Matthew explains the Qualities of tolerance, demonstrating the importance of helping the poor and outcast in society, and showing the way toward reverence for inner wisdom (as opposed to a focus on material things) are significant examples.

1, The Sermon on Mount, which concerns the character, duties, privileges, and destiny of citizens of the Kingdom of heaven.

Matthew describes Jesus not only as a future king, but a mortal with divine power.
