In The Bible, it sometimes seems that God is most unforgiving. The story of Adam and Eve has the whole of humanity punished forever, for the sin of eating the forbidden fruit. At other times, he is said to punish the descendants of a sinner for generations to come. If God is real, we need to make sure that he really is as forgiving as Christian tradition says he is.
