Yes but not that long.

Scholars speculate that Joseph died relatively early in Christ's life and that one of the reasons he waited until age 30 (or so) to begin his ministry was that he took over the family business after Joseph's death. Jesus waited until one of his brothers was old enough to take over for him before beginning his preaching.

But we have no record of Joseph's death in the Scripture at all.

If you are referring to St. Joseph the foster father of Jesus, he was not a disciple as he died long before Our Lord began his public life. If you refer to Saint Joseph of Arimathea, he was a disciple but a secret one initially.

Why did Saint Joseph become a saint?

St. Joseph accepted the responsibility of raising Jesus and supporting and caring for his wife, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Before they were married, Joseph learned that Mary was with child and he knew it could not be his. He could have walked away at that time and had nothing to do with Mary. However, in a dream it was revealed to him that Mary was pregnant by the Holy Spirit and had no relations with another man. From that day he took Mary as his wife and did everything to assure he was a good father to Jesus.

How did St. Joseph become a saint?

Joseph was a very hard working, pious man who took his duties as a husband and foster father of Jesus very seriously. He was declared a saint by popular acclamation not by canonization. The formal canonization process was not instituted until about the 12th century, long after Joseph was already known as a saint.

Consider the story of Jesus and His adopted Earthly father, Joseph. There is also Moses adopted by Pharoah's daughter. The main message here is that God is our Heavenly Father who will never leave us and will always love us - as long as we do not abandon Him by turning our backs.

How long did Mary and Joseph live?

The Scripture is silent as to the times of death for both His step-father Joseph and His mother, Mary. However, we can narrow it down a bit if curious. The last Scripture to mention Joseph alive is at Jesus' 12th birthday visiting the Temple in Jerusalem. At the start of His ministry at 30 years of age, Joseph is no longer mentioned and is presumed dead. Mary however, is present at the crucifixion of her son, Jesus when He was about 36.5 years of age as some scholars have dated this event on Passover, 31 AD. Jesus just before He dies, gives a command to His Apostle to take care of His earthly mother Mary. We do not know how much longer she lived though some historians have placed her travels with the Apostle John several years/decades later.
