Confirmation is an obligarory Sacrament of the Roman church. It can only be bestowed by a Bishop or higher cleric. I was confirmed at age ll in l967 ( sometimes it seems a distant as l9ll). I attended CCD classes ( as i went to a Lay school) all were gender -discreet in that period- there were separate boys and girls classes, ceremonies, and even probably books. ( all references were to the male gender in ours) this was a juvenile or teenage thing- I would guess about maybe two thirds of an academic year was in the purely practical Confirmation sylabbus=- with classes increasing ( several times a week ) as the ceremonial date approached. I have no idea how long it would take if taken as a sort of correspondence-school approach- as you seem to suggest- I was confirmed in a big ceremony- hundreds of candidates involved- a big, formal thing. I have no idea how it work with an adult converted candidate. Keep the Faith!
