In the month of Zul-Hijjah, there are no obligatory fasts. However, it is recommended to fast on the 9th of Zul-Hijjah, known as the Day of Arafah, especially for those not performing Hajj, as it expiates sins from the previous year and the coming year. Additionally, some people choose to fast on the 10th of Zul-Hijjah, known as Eid al-Adha, although it is not obligatory.

The First 10 days Fasting beginig from Month of Zul Hajj are very important, Even Allah swears about these Days in Quran Chapter 30, Sura Al- Fajer, Wal Fajri wa liyali Asher............ (Alla forgive more or less in topic and quotation) Also in Hadith....In a Hadith recorded by Imam al-Tirmidhi, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'There are no days in which good actions are more beloved to Allah than the ten days of Zul Hajj'. This is why fasting is encouraged during this period, as well as other righteous acts like Qur'anic recitation and Sadaqa. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said that the fast of Day of Arafa expiates the previous year's sin and the next years. The superiority starts from the first of this month.
The Hajj takes place from the 8th to the 12th of Zul-Hijjah which is the last month of the Hijri calendar. The most important out of the 5 days during which the rites of Hajj take place is the Yaum-al-Arafah, or the day of Arafat, is on the 9th of Zul-Hijjah. This is the day on which pilgrims camp in Arafat and the Hajj sermon takes place. The Islamic or Hijri Calendar is a lunar calendar based on moon sightings. The actual advent of each month depends upon the physical sighting of the new moon. The corresponding Gregorian dates are estimates based upon astronomical calculations, endorsed by the Fiqh Council of North America. The Gregorian dates for Hajj change from year to year.Hajj 2013 is expected to fall between October 13 and October 18, 2013.
