In the New King James translation, the phrase "in the beginning" appears ten times.

The references include "in the beginning of barley harvest" (2 Samuel 21:9); "in the beginning" of the reign of a given king (Ezra 4:6; Jeremiah 26:1; 27:1 and 49:34); and "in the beginning of the gospel" (Philippians 4:15).

Four times, the phrase is in reference to the beginning of the world: Genesis 1:1; John 1:1 and 2; and Hebrews 1:10.

Of perhaps even greater interest than the phrase "in the beginning" is the phrase "from the beginning," which occurs over thirty times, including extremely thought-provoking passages such as Proverbs 8:23 - I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.
