Peter helped the lame man at the temple, as he was filled with the spirit, and wanted the people to see that even after Jesus was no longer with them the holy spirit was there and in the name of Jesus he made the lame man walk.
The Bible does not give this detail and so it probably never will be known. The focus in the story is on what Jesus did for him.
It depends on the type of paralysis. Some types are reversible, and you go to psysiotherapy. You can also try natural healing, which has helped some. Unfortunately, most types of paralysis are irreversible and it's something you have to work with and accept.
If you are referring to the man with the withered hand, it was because Jesus did the healing on the Sabbath when no work (such as healing) was to be done. If you are referring to the man who was let down through the roof on a pallet, Jesus not only healed him but also told him his sins were forgiven. This was a claim to be divine, for they well knew that only God can forgive sins, and they thought that Jesus was only a man.
Jesus told him to pick up your bed and walk. And he did so right away.

Simon of Cyrene was the man who helped Jesus carry his cross.
Matthew 27:32 tells us that a man of Cyrene, Simon by name helped Jesus carry the cross to Calvary.

Jesus performed many miracles throughout his ministry. Some of the most notable were raising Lazarus from the dead, restoring sight to the blind man, turning water into wine at the wedding at Cana, and healing the paralysed man.
Here Jesus heals a man who was suffering from a paraytic stroke, and he said Pick up your bed and walk.
