How were people flying during The Mahabharat and The Ramayan times?

People did not fly at that time but it was believed that some of the evil spirits and mosters at that type had a power to fly, also god who have incarnated at earth to destroy the evil had the power, one of the most important God of that time having a super power to fly was HANUMAN, who is also known as PAVAN PUTRA i.e. a child of air.
