Iconoclasts were individuals who opposed the use of religious icons in Christianity, believing that such images led to idolatry and detracted from true worship of God. This movement gained significant momentum during the Byzantine Empire, particularly in the 8th and 9th centuries, leading to the destruction of many religious images. Iconoclasts argued that the veneration of icons was incompatible with the teachings of The Bible, advocating for a more abstract form of worship. The conflict between iconoclasts and iconodules (those who supported the use of icons) ultimately shaped the theological and artistic landscape of Christianity.
Napolean had them killed because he believed they were too tall
the Christians are upset, because the davinci code is pretty much saying jesus was a phoney and went against things he believed in.
They believed that Pharaohs were the descendants of their gods, and so they worshipped them, as they would a god. Like how Christians worship Jesus, because he is believed to be the son of God.
The Great Fire of Rome began in the Christian quarter of the city, and Emperor Nero believed the Christians had started the fire. Because of this, and to appear to the angry population that he was doing something, he expelled the Christians from Rome.
He destroyed it because he wanted to make a new community with all Christians
Emperor Nero blamed the great fire in Rome on the Christians and made Christianity illegal. So Christians were originally hated because the Romans believed their own lies. That continued with lie after lie. We have apologetics which are answers to those lies. The last one was by Origen, "Against Celsum." That destroyed the last of the intellectual opposition to Christianity. and because christians where a diffrent religian to Romans and tryed to spread the word of Jesus Romans tried to stop that and hated Jesus because they thought he minght take over the empire as he clamed to be the moiser
The early Christians had to hold secret meetings in Rome because being Christian was against the law. The only religion allowed in Rome was the polytheistic worship of the Roman gods, like Mars, Jupiter, Juno, and Venus. Because the Christians believed in the one God and believed in Jesus Christ, their religion was illegal, and they had to meet in secret to avoid being punished for breaking the laws.
The crusades were essentially a series of wars over religion which were started by the Catholic Church. In the beginning, it was because Christians were denied access to Jerusalem, and because many of the sacred Christian sites were destroyed.
There is no difference precisely because the disciples were Jewish. But the disciples were considered to be the first Christians because they believed that Jesus was the Son of God whereas the majority of Jews did not hold this belief.
Nope, because there were no Christians. Nephi and his father Lehi lead two Israelite (Jewish) families to the promised land. "Christians" technically didn't exist until Jesus Christ began his ministry, when the Jews were split between those who believed Jesus was the Messiah (these became Christians) and those who did not (these remained Jews).
Christians refer to Jesus as "the Christ" because the term "Christ" comes from the Greek word "Christos," which means "anointed one." It signifies that Jesus is believed to be the chosen one by God to fulfill the role of the Messiah and Savior.
Karl Marx believed that capitalism should be destroyed because he felt that it would lead to the exploitation of the Proletarians (the have-nots) by the Bourgeoisie (the haves). Karl Marx was a socialist. Needless to say, I think he was right.
