The real purpose and mission of Jesus Christ on earth was to restore the relationship He (God) had with man before Sin separated them as we know from the book of Genesis.

He came and did His work and from a number of scriptures He even mentions finishing the work.In fact some moments before He drew His last breath he repeated the same very phrase,It is finished!meaning that the head of the serpent had been crashed and the relationship between God and man has been restored.

Then the curtain in the Temple was torn into two piecesmeaning that we can go into the Holy of Hollies to meet God in prayer.Hence there is no more need of a priest to link us with God because Jesus is now the High priest and His blood is enough for cleansing all our sins. The blood of the cows and goats was no more needed and a priest to offer the same for that matter.

We are redeemed by the Blood of Christ,God is now our father and it is not necessary to have a human being tell our father what we can tell Him ourselves.

What does a intermediary do?

A Intermediary is the same thing as a mediator. I Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus". A mediator is a connecting link between two parties who want to come to an agreement. In the case of I Timothy 2:5 talking about Salvation Jesus Christ was the connecting link between God and men. Jesus was the perfect mediator as he possessed the nature and attributes of God (He was the Son of God and God Himself) and He (Jesus) was fully a Human Being. Jesus was the God/Man and so was the perfect Mediator. He mediates peace between God and any man who comes to God through Jesus Christ.

What is intercessor?

An intercessor is the specific intervening of one person, on behalf of another. Most commonly occurring through prayers to GOD. Another word for this is a 'Mediator' of which only Jesus Christ is all mankinds mediator between God and mankind - see 1 Timothy 2:5-6. This is not taught in mainstream Christianity.

Why do Catholics confess to a a priest when the Bible says only God can forgive you?

The reason Catholics confess to a priest is because they claim that the priest is simply relaying what you said to God. But, even this statement is contradicting the Bible. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; There is only one "middle-man" between you and God, and that is the man Christ Jesus. So unless we put Catholicism in authority over what the Bible actually says, the Catholics are 100% wrong in the case of confessing their sins to a priest.

What does a mediator do in a debate?

A mediator is a 'go-between'; One who comes between parties at odds, to reconcile differences. (Galatians 3:20)In the Scriptures the term is used in reference to both Moses and Jesus, who were the mediators between two different covenants.**Moses was mediator of the Law covenant between God and the nation of Israel (Deuteronomy 5:5)(Exodus 19:3, 7, 9)(Galatians 3:19)(John 7:19) and as mediator he helped the people keep the covenant and get the benefits(Leviticus 9).**Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant between God and the Christian congregation of 'spiritual Israel' (1Timothy 2:5)(Hebrews 12:24)(Hebrews 9:15)(Hebrews 8:10-13). As mediator he is always able to plead for those approaching God through him (Hebrews 7:24, 25)

Are intercessors appointed by man are called by God?

An intercessor is a mediator that goes between God and man. I Timothy 2:5 says that there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. There is no other way to get to God except through Jesus. But all Christians are called by God to interceed through Jesus for each other by prayer. We are called by God to pray for many other things as well such as those who rule our nations. Intercessors are NOT appointed by other men.
