In The Bible, Old and New Testaments the word tithe

occurs 14 times in 13 verses in the KJV.

The word means 'tenth' and refers to the giving of the tenth of harvest, flocks, goods, etc as an offering to God for the good of God's work and house. Some have argued that the tithe is not for the New Testament times but this is an error. The tithe was actually before the Law was given, when Abraham gave a tenth to the high priest, Melchisedek. If anything, when a life is given to the Savior, in the 'great exchange', all of what we have and own belongs to him. Jesus even refers to the tithe, and teaches that not one jot nor tittle of the Law would disappear: the Law stays forever the mirror of God's righteousness, fulfilled in Him, God's righteousness. Actually,we should do more, but more particularly, what He requests in obedience.

From the BlueletterBible, KJV:

Lev 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the LORD.

Deu 12:17

Deu 14:22

Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

Deu 14:23

And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

Deu 14:28

At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay [it] up within thy gates:

2Ch 31:5

And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all [things] brought they in abundantly.

2Ch 31:6

And [concerning] the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid [them] by heaps.

Mat 23:23

But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe

mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Where in the bible does it say about tithing 10 percent?

Nowhere in the Bible does it say to tithe 10 percent. The word tithe means a tenth, or a tenth part, NOT ten percent. There is a big difference. Example: In Leviticus 27:32 God said the tenth animal is the one to tithe - the LAST ONE out of every ten. If you only had 9 animals, you wouldn't tithe. If you had 19 animals, animal number ten would be the one to tithe. The Biblical tithe was never money, and never came from anyone's income, and was to be eaten by the tither, his family, the Levites, the priests, the widows, the orphans, and the stranger. See Deut. 14:22-29.

Where in the New Testament is it written that Christians are obligated to tithe?

There is no verse in the New Testament that states that Christians must tithe. The concept of giving 10% of your income to the Lord is from the Old Testament. The New Testament does say however, that Christians should set aside a portion of their funds for the church. This can be found in 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. What should one do with their tithe while between churches?

Tithing is not a part of New Testament Christianity. Nowhere in the Bible are Christians commanded to tithe. Tithing was replaced with giving. Now if you want to give money you can do so. The money you give can go to anything or anyone. Your giving is not limited to the church. And you don't have to give 10 percent. You can give more or less based on how the Spirit directs you to give.Your Tithe Experthttp:/www.thetithinghoax.com

How much is an offering if 10 percent is tithe?

An offering is something over and above the tithe, for those who consider the tithe obligatory, although there are different opinions among Christians as to the obligatory nature of the tithe since it is not mentioned as such in the New Testament. For some who do not believe the tithe obligatory, an offering would be another name for the tithe. In any case, an offering is an indefinite amount whereas the tithe is 10%. So there can be no answer to what the offering may be. Remember Jesus praised the poor widow who gave all she had, even though it was a ''mite'' the smallest possible coin of those days, while He was not complimentary to others who put in large amounts when their heart was not right in terms of motive. So, firstly, one's heart should be right about how to give and then any amount can be given at any time. Most importantly, as outlined in the New Testament God wants our whole heart first as a ''living sacrifice'' or offering to Him.
