the reason why the Catholic Church does not agree with artificial contraception is that the Church believes life is God-given and therefore we have no right to alter God's will whether or not a life should begin - or end for that matter. That is why the C atholic Church is against euthanasia as well.
Incidentally, the Catholic Church is not against allcontraception - only artificial methods that are not directly connected with the physiology of the human body. Therefore anong these, methods such as the 'Billings Method' (where cervical secretions are examined to determine fertile/infertile parts of the menstrual cycle) and the famous Rhythm Method (where temperatures is taken to determine ovulatiion and hence a fertile/infertile times of the month) are perfectly acceptable. What is not acceptable to the Church are artificial methods such as the condom, the Pill, spermicides and the Dutch Cap. Despite the 'official' Church rules, though, many Catholics ignore them and still remain loyal Christian members of the Church.
The other methods of contraception - namely the coil and 'morning after' pill, are also not accepted by the Catholic Church, and some other strict Churches too are a little wary - as both these methods are more abortive rather than contra-ceptive in that they prevent the implantation into the womb of an already fertilised egg. This is one stage more than contraception and, to some, is seen as abortive.
There is also a movement within the Catholic Church to allow condoms. However, the justification for this is not as a contraceptive but as a way of preventing the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDs and other sexually transmitted diseases.
As for the rest of the Christian Church, namely the Anglicans, Methodists and so on, they take a much more liberal view on contraception, and are deemed no less 'nearer to God' as a result. As the above attests, they think that the greater 'sin' (if contraception IS a sin!!) is the birth of an unwanted child, or, as in some parts of the world, multiple children born to parents who are extremely poor and, as a result, the child/ren are bound for a short life of suffering.
Emergency contraception
Answer: Not sure if this is really an answer, but I read something about this in Rome Sweet Home, a book by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Answer: The Roman Catholic church believes that sex exists purely to produce children, so contraception is therefore a sin. The Anglican churches believe that lovemaking within marriage is a way of uniting a man and woman in physical union, so contraception is acceptable within marriage.
Henri Rozenbaum has written: '200 questions sur la contraception' -- subject(s): Contraception 'La contraception'
A:Protestants are overwhelmingly in favour of the use of contraception.
