Sin is an invention of religion so according to some religions it is and according to others it isn't, It all depends on your own personal opinion. Putting aside the ignorant opinion and the concept that masturbation is a waste if seed. there is no practical reason for not masturbating when not having regular sex. because sperm is continuously produced and and ejaculated anyway.

As a Christian myself, I find it rather sinful to masturbate but found out from my Youth Group Leader that it is only sinful if you do for obsession.This meaning, if you masturbate for someone that's obsession, or do it to porn that's obsession. So if you are a Christian and worry if you are sinning by masturbating, you're not if you're just do it but are if you are doing it for someone. I hope this helped to all Christians who are unsure about it but if you still feel it is sin (which I have to admit I feel it is sin) you can stop mastubating or just know that it isn't a sin. The reason why it isn't sin just to masturbate normally (non obsesssion) is because touching your body isn't sin. Masturbating (non obsession) is in the same comparison as say picking your nose. It's not sin!

That said, adultery is a worse sin, so if masturbation would prevent the greater sin of adultery, then it is allowed as a temporary measure until the danger passes. It is not acceptable for masturbation to become a habit.
