Prayer is the most practiced form of any religious ritual, Christianity not excluded. For a religion to make a deep impression, either it's rituals must be light and frequent (like prayer), or very heavy impact, but only once in a lifetime (like a coming of age ritual you nearly die in).

Religions that for instance only have one very light ritual (singing auld lang syne on new years eve) will be outcompeted by other religions.

Roman Catholic AnswerYou can not lead a Christian life without prayer. Prayer can be adoration, Thanksgiving, expiation, petition, or love. Above all prayer must be mental, you must think about what you are praying and listen for God's word to you. Jesus gives us the example of how prayer should permeate our whole life, and St. Paul tells us that we must pray without ceasing. (1 Thess 5:17).

As usual, the relinut can not even answer a basic question like this. He tells you you should, but not why... Please do waste some more time praying for my soul, it tickles me.
