Potentially, very. There are some example of abuse of religion, else unknowing abuse; while some are genuine, yet still a little selfish (if you are genuine in your mission and gain loads of cash, then you would give it away to charity, wouldn't you?). Here are some examples whereby you can make decent money from religion. Others should feel free to add more; but please do not remove.

  • Faith healing. Through this, you can attract visitors to your shows (they pay, of course,) and in return they will engage in faith teaching, and then a few will be healed before your eyes - thus confirming your faith in God. Whether you cheat and do nothing to heal anybody, and instead use actors or people with only partial disabilities, or if God does indeed come down and heal the person, you will make good money if it actually works and if the audience feels they have taken something away from it.
  • Top priest, bishop, cardinal (and other roles too). The church is very rich, and so long as you participate and teach properly, you will be paid; potentially a very large sum indeed.
  • Other Business. You can make good money by singing songs and selling albums, or by providing resources for Sunday schools to use, or anything along the lines of you selling a product or service in the name of the Church or God.

I hope these examples will be proof enough that you can make money from religion; but if you have the intention of doing so, most people would condemn you for your actions because you have acted in your own interests, not in the service of God. (Note that it is a similar story with religions other than Christianity, but Christianity is quite possibly the richest (don't quote me!))

Therefore, religion is lucrative, but this should not be what you have in mind; instead you must feel that you are serving God through your actions, and put your own benefits last.
