Roman Catholic AnswerThe Sacrament of Reconciliation, as one of the few Sacraments which can be repeated, is need today more than ever. And, just as the need is so great, people are staying away in droves. This is a major catastrophe as people are also receiving Holy Communion in droves, and to receive the Most Holy Eucharist in a state of mortal sin is sacrilege - an even greater mortal sin. The Bible is very clear that people who desecrate the Eucharist in this manner are dying - and when God is discussing death, He means spiritual death - a whole lot worse than just leaving this world, it means entering an eternity of suffering in hell, apart from God.
