There is a lot going on in there. Yes it shows that even though Christ himself didn't want to bear what was about to follow he loved God and us more than himself. If you took the love out of it the obedience itself wouldn't mean a thing. It also contrasts the fall of man in the garden of eden. Obedience without love is an ugly task master.
