Heifer International was founded in 1944 by Church of the Brethren educator Dan West. His vision of a worldwide program to end hunger and poverty was born of his Christian faith. Heifer is careful to avoid being categorized a missionary organization but they work though churches and missions. For somone who has seen the devastation and exploitaion caused by missionary work on native populations I would recommend strongly against using this group.
