The Son of God (Jesus the Christ) was sent to earth to reconcile man (human beings) to God. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to satisfy God and so He went to the cross to die for us. He took our place so that we could have everlasting life with our creator. This was His mission.

What according to Jesus was his missio?

To do His father's will. That will was to reconcile sinful man back to God, and that was to die as a sacrifice on the cross of Calvary and be resurrected the third day. This is the mission the God Head had decided on in eternity past (Matthew 18:11). Jesus completed this mission and proclaimed on the cross, "It is finished" (John 19:30).

How did baptism help Jesus to prepare for his mission as the messiah?

Baptism served as a pivotal moment for Jesus, marking the beginning of his public ministry and affirming his identity as the Messiah. By being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus identified himself with humanity's sin and need for redemption, signaling his mission to save and reconcile humanity with God. This event also received divine affirmation, as the heavens opened and God's voice proclaimed Jesus as His beloved Son, further empowering him for the mission ahead.
