As biblically categorized above... and as the dictionary defines -- man's base human nature is "selfish":

"(adjective): ...lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure."

In other words... human nature which is governed by the five physical senses and Satan the Devil [the originator of sin; which is disobedience to God's Laws - see John 8:44 & I John 3:4], generates selfishness; [the concern for one's own self over care and concern for the welfare of others].

It is the exact opposite of God's Divine Nature which is governed by the Holy Spirit dwelling within a person. God's Nature generates Selflessness; [a flowing electric current of Living Water - outgoing care, concern and Love for others].

One of the purposes of this first phase of Life that we're all living -- this Life that none of us has ever lived before, of which we are all lacking in experience -- is to "get that experience" in order to "learn to "overcome our selfish human nature" and to "learn and grow in the Selfless Nature of our Creator."

"May God bless you with His Special Favor and Wonderful Peace as you come to know Jesus, our God and LORD, better and better. As we know Jesus better, His Divine Power gives us everything we need for Living a Godly Life. He has called us to receive His own Glory and Goodness! And by that same mighty Power, He has given us all of His Rich and Wonderful Promises. He has Promised that you will escape the decadence [selfishness; worldly and personal] all around you caused by evil desires and that YOU WILL SHARE IN HIS DIVINE NATURE.

"So make every effort TO APPLY THE BENEFITS OF THESE PROMISES TO YOUR LIFE. Then your Faith will produce A LIFE OF MORAL EXCELLENCE. A Life of Moral Excellence leads to knowing God better. Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to Godliness. Godliness leads to Love for other Christians, and finally YOU WILL GROW TO HAVE GENUINE LOVE FOR EVERYONE.

"The more you grow like this, the more you will become Productive and Useful in your Knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ.

"But those who fail to develop these virtues are blind or, at least, very shortsighted. They have already forgotten that God has cleansed them from THEIR OLD [selfish] LIFE OF SIN." (II Peter 1:2-9 NLT New Living Translation)

Selfish is the natural way of the flesh that life's experiences must teach us to overcome, that man might grow and develop, spiritually, the ways of Selfless Love; and be re-born in God's good time into His Divine Immortal Family.

"For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. And since we are His Children, we will share His treasures - for everything God gives to His Son, Christ, IS OURS, TOO. But if we are to share His Glory, we must also share His suffering." (Rom.8:16-17 NLT)

Life in the flesh teaches us the "physical struggle" [suffering] involved in the prospect [the hazards and dangers] of "being born." And life "in the Spirit" teaches us that "spiritual" hazards and dangers also exist in our "life-long struggle" [suffering] to be RE-born. That is... our struggle through the Power of Christ to overcome our selfish fleshly nature and the distractions of the world, to grow and develop Righteous Character; into a Child of God.

Because the struggle is real. Even Jesus had to struggle as a man to learn not to sin [to disobey God's Laws - see again I John 3:4]:

"So even though Jesus was God's Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered. In this way, God qualified Him as a Perfect High Priest, and He became the Source of Eternal Salvation FOR ALL THOSE WHO OBEY HIM... There is so much more we would like to say about this. But you don't seem to listen, so it's hard to make you Understand." (Heb.5:8-11 NLT)

Man's selfish nature keeps getting in the way of his spiritual development. But Christ waits patiently... and Selflessly... for those who are being called to come around to God's Truth.

"Therefore, since we have been made Right in God's sight by Faith, we have Peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our LORD has [Selflessly] done for us. Because of our Faith, Christ has brought us into this place of Highest Privilege where we now stand, and we Confidently and Joyfully look forward to SHARING GOD'S GLORY.

"And we can rejoice, too, WHEN WE RUN INTO PROBLEMS AND TRIALS [struggles], for we know that THEY ARE GOOD FOR US - THEY HELP US LEARN TO ENDURE. And endurance DEVELOPS STRENGTH OF CHARACTER IN US, and Character strengthens our CONFIDENT EXPECTATION OF SALVATION [our re-birth into God's Family]. And this expectation will not disappoint us. For we know how dearly God Loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to FILL OUR HEARTS WITH HIS LOVE." (Rom.5:1-5 NLT)

And so a new definition of "selfish" is offered here: "Selfish is that nature of man's flesh with which he is born, that must be overcome by God's Divine Nature in this life in order to develop the Selfless Character and Love of God within us, to be born again."

What is the difference between self-obsessed and selfish person?

Self-obsessed is when somebody cares more about themself than other people. Selfish is being greedy, or hording something, money for instance. These two are very different. Actually, I would think they are generally the same. To me when a person is selfish they are also self obsessed and vice verse. There is such a wide range of things that one can be selfish or obsessed about and the question was the difference between self-obsessed so the answer is nothing. A selfish person is "selfish" and a "self" obsessed person is "selfish". To me they are the same thing. Its anything that has to do with that person that's usually what rules their world. These type people are also greedy, very needy, attention seekers and usually extremely narcissistic.
