Potentially. Religion, to the religious, will never be deemed a waste of time. To the atheist, its absolutely a waste of time. However, I would argue that, whether any religion is real or true, or not, they serve much needed parts of the average person's psyche. They give a sense of companionship, family (especially to those who never really had a "family"), a place of protection and love, but also cause one to raise, what I feel are, important questions about who we are as a species and what our real role in the universe is.
