No he was not wrong but right as he always is. He was crucified on Thursday, and he spent that night and Friday and Saturday nights in the grave.

It is written in John 19.31 that the Sabbath day after Jesus' death was a high day, or a holy convocation, as The Bible talks of in Leviticus 23.4 to 8 and in Exodus 12.14 to 16. So it was not necessarily a Saturday; in fact in the light of Jesus prophecy about Jonah, that day could not have been a Saturday

How did Christ fully accomplish the sign of Jonah in death?

As Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so Jesus was three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth

Who in the Bible was swallowed by a whale and lived?

Jonah...Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.Answer:The inspired scripture doesn't say "whale." It says that God "...PREPARED A GREAT FISH to swallow up Jonah..." (Jonah 1:17).It doesn't reveal what kind of fish... or if this "special" fish is extant today as a species.Nor does it say that Jonah was alive for those three days and three nights in the fish's belly. We are only told that in the fish's belly Jonah prayed... but not for how long.Jesus gave the "sign of Jonas" as THE ONLY "proof of His Messiahship:"...An evil and adulterous generation SEEKETH AFTER A SIGN; and there shall no sign be given to it, BUT THE SIGN OF THE PROPHET JONAS: For AS Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly [again, the inspired word is 'KETOS' -- or, HUGE FISH]; SO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH." (Matt.12:40)How was Jesus [after the manner of Jonah] in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights? Was He alive... or was He dead?Of course... He was "resurrected" from the dead... just AS Jonah was resurrected when: "...it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land." (Jonah 2:10)If Jonah was alive three days and three nights in the fish's belly... then so was Jesus alive [AS Jonah was] -- which would mean He never paid our ransom... the ONLY SIGN HE GAVE OF HIS MESSIAHSHIP FAILED... and Jesus Christ is not the Messiah.Yes, Jonah lived... but only after he was revived after three days and three nights.

What are the three similarities between Jesus and Jonah?

They both spent three days and three nights in the "deep". Jonah three days in depths of the sea, in the belly of the fish (the Bible does not say whale) and Jesus three days in the depths of the earth.

What is a similar story of Jonah in the New Testament?

Elements of Jonah's three days in the belly of a great fish are paralleled in the New testament by Jesus' three days in the tomb. This is mentioned as being so in Matthew 12:40 (KJV): For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

What connections does the story Jonah and the big fish have to the life and death of Christ?

One connection Jonah has with Jesus Christ is that in Matthew 12:38-40 is that some of the scribes and Pharisees said, "Teacher, we want a sign from you". But Jesus answered, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".

In the Bible how many days was Jonah in the whales stomach?

ANSWER: Jonah was in the belly of the sea creature for 3 days and 3 nights, the same length of time Christ was in the belly of the earth (Matthew 12:40, Jonah 1:17). This was the only sign given to the Pharisees proving that Christ was the Messiah.

Why is the story of Jonah considered to be a parable?

I am not so sure the Story of Jonah is a parable - a short, comparative tale to relay an important message. The Scripture presents Jonah as a real person who had an unusual event happen to him. Even today, Japanese fisherman have discovered a live human inside a large fish (whale in this case). Because they asked Jesus for a sign of His Messiahship, He told them the only sign would be that of Jonah - a comparison or 'parable' of what was about to occur. As Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the great fish, Jesus would be 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the Earth - the grave or hell. Those who speculate on His dying on a Friday afternoon and rising on an early Sunday morning, apparently denounce this one and only sign given. No matter how one counts, you will never arrive at 3 twelve hour days and 3 twelve hour nights.

Where is the word whale listed in the Bible?

In the New American Bible Jesus is stated as saying: "Just as Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man spend three days and three nights in the bowels of the earth." (Matthew 12:40) However, most translations render the words "a great fish" and does not specify what kind of sea creature God used, but Jesus himself confirmed that the account of Jonah is true. (Matthew 12:39, 40)

What did Jesus say about Jonas?

Do you mean Jonah? When Jesus was asked for a "miraculous sign", he told the people that none would be given except the sign of Jonah. Then he explained that just as Jonah was in the belly of a fish for three days, so also would Jesus be in the "heart of the earth" for three days (Matthew 12:38-40). He also said that as Jonah was a sign to Ninevah, Jesus also was a sign to this generation (Luke 11:29-31).

Why do we celebrate Good Friday when it should be good Thursday i e The Son of Man will be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the Earth Thursday night Friday night Saturday night Easter Sunday?

Jesus did not die on Friday. He actually died on a Wednesday and rose on a Saturday. He spent Wednesday night, Thursday day, Thursday night, Friday day, Friday night, Saturday day in the grave just as he said he would do. "Just as Jonah spent 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish, so the son of man will spend 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth." It is believed that Jesus rose from the dead at 6pm on Saturday so that the prophecy would be fulfilled.Jonah 1:17 (KJV) Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.Matthew 12:40 (KJV) For as Jonas was three days and three night's in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Where in the Bible do you find Jesus referring Jonah as his only Messiahship?

Answer # 1The name Jonah only occurs in two places in biblical text and both are in the old testament 2Kings 14:25 and the book of JonahThere is no written reference by Christ to the name Jonah in all the new testament, and never to anyone as his Messiahship.Answer # 1 EndsAnswer:In the New Testament [KJV] "Jonah" becomes "Jonas":"A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall be no sign given unto it, but the sign of the prophet JONAS..." (Matt.16:4 KJV).(compare with the NIV): " A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of JONAH...".Jesus' used the sign of Jonah [three days and three nights in the fish's belly; or in His case, three days and three nights in the grave - dead - in the belly of the earth]... raising from the dead in that period of time... as the ONLY PROOF OF HIS MESSIAHSHIP [that He, Jesus, was the Messiah for whom everyone at that time was looking].The call for "a sign from heaven" came from the haughty, Faithless rulers of the people... the Pharisees. They too were looking for the Messiah... and if He was the one they were looking for -- they demanded that He quit pussy-footing around, step up and PROVE IT TO THEM!"The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested Him by asking Him to show them a sign from heaven." (verse 1)This "sign of Jonas" is also found in [Matt.12:38-41 & Luke 11:29-32].In other words: If Jesus failed to rise from the grave after three days and three nights [Jonah's sign] -- then HE WAS NOT THE MESSIAH!And they [and we who are looking for Him, according to the prophecies] must look for another. The "sign of Jonah [Jonas]" is the ONLY SIGN Jesus gives us [our wicked and adulterous generation... as well as theirs] as PROOF THAT HE IS THE MESSIAH.

Why do Christians believe that Jonah prefigures Christ?

Christians believe this because Christ himself made the connection: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
