Paul mentions Luke in his Epistle to Philemon so, depending on how old Luke was at this time, he may well have been alive during Jesus' ministry. However, Luke was not the author of the gospel that now bears his name.
Like all the New Testament gospels, Luke's Gospel was originally anonymous, so the second-century Church Fathers decided to attribute it to the person they felt was most probably its author. Because Acts of the Apostles seems to have been written by the same author, they expected that he must have been an educated gentile who knew Paul, and narrowed it down to Luke. And so, for nearly two thousand years, we have believed that one of the gospels was written by Luke.
However, the gospel appears to have been written far too late to have been written by the Luke that Paul knew. In fact, it was written far too late to have been written by anyone likely to have been alive around seventy years earlier, during the time of Jesus.
Yes, Luke is considered a disciple of Jesus. He was a close follower and companion of Jesus during his ministry on Earth.
In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
I believe he was in his twenties.Another answer:According to Luke 3:23, Jesus was "about thirty" when His ministry began.
All four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are all about Jesus' public ministry. I would say that Luke probably has the most description about his public life.
In Luke 1:2 the writer indicates he had not been an eyewitness to the earthly ministry of Jesus. So I think he was not one of the original 12 disciples.
Jesus' specific age is only mentioned twice in Scripture; Luke 2:42 (when he was twelve), and when He began His ministry (soon after being baptized), when He was said to be "about thirty" (Luke 3:23). A three-year ministry would have made Him about 33 at the time of the crucifixion.
Jesus life and ministry is chronicled in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Most people think that all four were Apostles, but Luke was not. Luke was a physician and accompanied the Apostle Paul on some of his missionary journeys. Luke also wrote the Book of the Acts of Apostles which chronicled their journey. See the related links for information on Jesus Christ, his life and ministry.
The subject matter in the Gospel of Luke primarily focuses on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It also emphasizes themes of compassion, forgiveness, salvation, and the inclusivity of Jesus' message for all people. Additionally, Luke highlights the role of women, the marginalized, and the oppressed in the ministry of Jesus.
Disciples were with Jesus approximately 3.5 years. Luke 3:23 "Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry". Scholars suggest Jesus began his ministry in 26/27 A.D and he died at about 33 years old in 30 A.D.
period of judean ministry of Jesus
Some individuals who were not eyewitnesses during Jesus' ministry include religious leaders outside of his immediate circle, those living in distant regions at the time, and many future generations who were not born yet.
Assuming you are talking about the one from the Bible and not the one from Starwars, he was not one of the original 12 apostles. He was never mentioned as an apostle in the bible. I believe that a number of the apostle had trouble writing or were too busy preaching to write so they had other people record the ministry of Jesus for them. Luke recorded the ministry. The apostles lived it. I think Luke's role shows us that anyone can be useful to God. He didn't have to be an apostle to make an impact to the world. The apostle were being taught to preach about Jesus' life and resurrection. They were told to continue doing the miracles that Jesus had been doing during his ministry. They were also told that they would suffer and be perscuted like Jesus. I think it was for Luke's sake that he was not an original apostle but his part is just as important. He wrote about Jesus so that we can accurately read about it in the bible today.
