God uses figures of speech throughout the bible to call attenention to what is important. If the ground was dry you could say 'the ground is dry' which would be fine. If you wanted to call attention to the sentence you would say 'the ground is thirsty'. This is a figure of speech. An image is representation of something greater (i.e. a picture of the rocky mountains is a represenation of something greater) and is used as a figure of speech. John 4:24 says 'God is spirit'. The 'image' of God is spirit. In the begining God formed man's body out of the dust of the earth. He formed our body because the earth was already created. He made man a soul, which is breath life, because a soul was already created (Gen 1:21). He created them in His image, which is spirit. When the bible says 'God created man and woman in His image' He means He created man and woman to have a spirit, which is the image of God. I encourage you to read Genisis chapter 1 and see for yourself the defitnitions of formed, made, and created.
Genesis 2:7 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. The scriptures sometimes refer to a body and spirit joined together as a soul. Accordingly the term soul is used in conjunction with the body and the spirit of man.
The keyword "spirit" refers to a person's inner essence or life force. This concept is connected to the idea that spirit means breath because in many cultures, breath is seen as a symbol of life and vitality. The connection between spirit and breath highlights the belief that one's spirit is closely tied to their physical existence and the act of breathing symbolizes the presence of life within a person.
In Biblical terms, the spirit (Hebrew: neshama נְשָׁמָה) is the breath. So, to allow your spirit to leave your body would be to allow the breath to leave your body (in other words, you die or get really close to dying). It's probably not a good idea to attempt this.
The term "spirit" is significant because it is linked to the idea that "spirit" originally meant "breath." This connection highlights the belief that the essence of life and vitality is closely tied to the act of breathing.
Gen.2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. According to this reading both the body and the spirit are the soul of man. At a certain time, a child in the womb will receive its spirit, the child then becomes a living soul. All of our spirits existed before this world was made.

The divine force, quality and influence of the Most High God. This is Judaism's take on Holy Spirit. Christians consider The Holy Spirit(Ghost) as part of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. In Islam it is referred to in the Qur'an as an agent of divine action or communication.
