Psalms, Genesis and Exodus are great starting points for beginning Bible readers. In Genesis and Exodus you find out the general gist of how life on Earth started (Genesis 1:1-27), how all of man became imperfect (Genesis 3:1-5), Jehovah God's plan to redeem humanity (Genesis 3:15), as well as the start of the family line that the savior of mankind would come through. (Genesis 12:1-2)

The Psalms give plenty of insight on spiritual matters and even Jehovah Himself. It's there where we're told what happens when we regularly adhere to The Bible's counsel (Psalm 1:3), what God's name is (Psalm 83:18), and even the type of individuals Jehovah seeks to have friendships with. (Psalms 15:1-5)

In any case, before one reads the Bible it's beneficial to ask Jehovah through prayer for guidance on how to understand it. (James 1:5; Proverbs 3:5-6)
