In The Bible, the scripture says that Joseph found out Mary was pregnant before they were married. He initially planned to divorce her quietly, but an angel appeared to him in a dream and told him that the child was from the Holy Spirit. Joseph then chose to stay with Mary and raise the child, who would be named Jesus.
There is no scripture referrence to the death of Joseph. What we know is strictly based on tradition.
There IS no place in the Bible where an innkeeper speaks to Joseph and Mary about anything. The only thing the Bible says is that they stayed in the stable because there was no place for them in the lodging room.(Luke 2:6-7)
