Franciscans belong to one of several Orders in the Catholic church who follow the inspiration of Saint Francis of Assisi. There are three major groups of Franciscans: the Friars Minor, who developed from the Observants allowing no corporate property; the Conventuals, who allowed corporate ownership; and the Capuchins, who strongly emphasized poverty and austerity. The Second Order is contemplative, known as the Poor Clares, and the Third Order are Franciscans among men and women engaged in apostolic work and under simple vows. There is also a Third Order Secular.

Well, as disappointing as it might sound to you, I know you were probably seeking a "deeper" name for the "Franciscans" but matter of fact is that after all that is what they are, they are mostly Roman Catholics. Besides that, there are also some other minor sects/groups, of which the "Order Of Friars Minor" was the most prominent. It is consistant of 3 different groups which all live according to the "Rule of St. Francis". Those 3 groups are: The Franciscan Friars (Observants); The Capuchins; and the Conventual Franciscans.

Franciscans are made up of First Order Friars and Sisters, Second order enclosed Sisters as well as a Third order made up of Lay people and Ordained folk. Friars, unlike Monks, work outside the Priory in the world. Only the enclosed second order franciscan nuns lead a life of full-time contemplation and prayer.

Not totally sure what you're looking for... But the Franciscans are also called the Seraphic Order, and their mottoes are Pax et Bonum (Peace and Goodness) and Poverty and Joy...
