A word is only unfamiliar if the person does not know it. What I might suggest is unfamiliar might be well-known to someone else. So it's nearly impossible to answer this question. We'd all just be guessing what words someone might not know. It would be better if you open a dictionary to find words that are not familiar to you than for us to try to guess.

I see words I don't know and look them up. The last couple that were unfamiliar to me were:

  1. lacuna - a gap, an interval
  2. abnegation - the act of renouncing or rejecting something.

Words I know that you might not know:

  1. thrombosis - a blood clot
  2. odontoid - a tooth-like projection between the 1st and 2nd cervical spinal bones on which the 1st cervical pivots

Think about what words you've seen recently that looked interesting and what they might mean. Then, look them up.
