The Ten Commandments go against the very grain of human nature. God's Law commands His Children to SELFLESSLY LOVE, RESPECT, and maintain GENUINE CONCERN for Him... and for the WELL-BEING of one another.

But human nature, [that, is the way the "naturalcarnal human mind" thinks, without the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit] is SELFISH and REBELLIOUS TO AUTHORITY. Human nature cries out, "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, OR HOW TO LIVE!"

God reveals to us: "If your sinful [sin is disobedience to God's Commandments - I John 3:4] nature controls your mind [and it does], there is death [the penalty for sin, or disobedience to God's Commandments]. But IF THE HOLY SPIRIT controls [better translated 'guides'] your mind, there is Life and Peace. For THE SINFUL NATURE[the natural, carnal mind of man] IS ALWAYS HOSTILE TO GOD. IT NEVER DID OBEY GOD'S LAWS, and IT NEVER WILL." (Rom.8:6-7 NLT New Living Translation)

And in this world, which is ruled by Satan and his demons, to whom the two people God made [male and female made He them] GAVE TO THEM when they obeyed "that old Serpent's" command to ignore God [see Gen.3 & Rev.12:9] in the beginning... in this world, obeying the Law of God is just not the thing to do.

Human nature is SELFISH... God's Selfless Love is OUTGOING and FLOWING. Human nature is REBELLIOUS to authority... God's Commandments DEMAND OBEDIENCE... they COMMAND GOD'S CHILDREN TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

That's why you don't see much of God's Selfless, Giving Love in the world. It DISADVANTAGEOUS to GIVE when human nature cries out to GET all it can. Envy, jealousy, lust and greed are the ways of human nature. God's Law is about "...Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Moderation..." [see Gal.5:22-23].

God makes no Laws AGAINST DOING THE THINGS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: "...against such things THERE IS NO LAW. And they that are Christ's [with God's Holy Spirit] have crucified the flesh [struggle to overcome the pulls of human nature] with the affections and lusts. If we Live in the Spirit [are guided, led by the Holy Spirit], let us also WALK in the Spirit [conduct ourselves according to the ways of the Loving, Respectful ways of the Commandments]. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another." (Gal.5:23-26)

Obedience to the Ten Commandments is "not sinning"... "not disobeying them." [see again I John 3:4]. But "selfish, rebellious" human nature finds them quite "disadvantageous" in this world... a world guided and influenced by an evil spirit realm. But in the "world that's coming" with the return of Christ, Satan and his demons won't be around to influence man: man will only have himself to blame, then:

"For unto angels hath HE NOT PUT IN SUBJECTION the WORLD TO COME, whereof we speak." (Heb.2:5)

In this world, trying to obey the Laws of God without His Holy Spirit guiding our thoughts and actions is not only "disadvantageous" but "impossible." No human naturally has the Selfless Love of God in him. Only God can awaken and instill that in a person, by the indwelling of His Holy Spirit with our human spirit:

"The [Holy] Spirit itself beareth witness WITH OUR SPIRIT, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD..." (Rom.8:16).

"...BE RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF YOUR MIND." (Eph.4:23)

"...though the outward man perish, yet the inward man [the Child of God growing within the person with God's Holy Spirit; His Holy Seed] IS RENEWED DAY BY DAY." (II Cor.4:16)

With the advent of God's Holy Spirit within a person, the values and standards of this world [and the human mind and heart] take on a whole new light... or rather; with God's awakening of a human spirit to the Truth of His Word, that individual can finally see THE DARKNESS in which he has "existed" most of, if not all, of his life.

The "disadvantage" of keeping God's Ten Commandments [or trying to] is "all-consuming" in this world of people guided by their hate-filled human nature... but it's a BRIEF one. God encourages His Children to OVERCOME their mortal nature, and GROW IN RIGHTEOUS CHARACTER through the hard lessons this mortal nature has to teach us for this brief time we're now living.

"...we GLORY IN TRIBULATIONS ALSO: knowing that tribulation worketh PATIENCE; and patience, EXPERIENCE [character development]; and experience, HOPE [God's promise to His Children of Eternal Life and a FUTURE beyond this "first mortal phase" of life] and Hope maketh not ashamed [belief in God and the Bible is a shameful thing in this world to those ruled by human nature]; because the Love of God is shed abroad IN OUR HEARTS by the HOLY SPIRIT which IS GIVEN TO US." (Rom.5:3-5)

The "disadvantage" of obeying God's Ten Commandments in this world, really, would be TRYING TO KEEP THEM WITHOUT HIS HOLY SPIRIT DWELLING WITHIN US. It's an impossible task. But if God opens the heart and mind of an individual to the Truth of His Word, and bestows His Spirit upon him; there is no disadvantage. That person is now able to see beyond this wicked, sin-sick world... see it for the vain place that it is. He'll be able to see the world that's coming. A world where human nature no longer exists, because man shall be changed to SPIRIT, then.

"Now this I say, brethren, that FLESH AND BLOOD [human nature] CANNOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery [which this Satan-blinded and deceived, carnal minded world is unable to see]; we shall not all sleep [die], but WE SHALL BE CHANGED... for this corruptible [nature of ours] MUST PUT ON INCORRUPTION, and this MORTAL must put on IMMORTALITY." (I Cor.15:50-53)

This spiritually blinded and deceived world is at a disadvantage because IT CAN'T SEE THE ADVANTAGE OF KEEPING THE LORD'S COMMANDMENTS! This world is missing out on the HAPPINESS and JOY one derives from PLEASING OUR CREATOR!

"HAPPY ARE THE PEOPLE of integrity, who FOLLOW THE LAW OF THE LORD. HAPPY are those who OBEY HIS DECREES and SEARCH FOR HIM WITH ALL THEIR HEARTS. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in His paths. You have CHARGED US to KEEP YOUR COMMANDMENTS CAREFULLY. Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your principles!" (Ps.119:1-5 NLT)

Read of all the "advantages" David cites in the 119th Psalm of KEEPING THE LORD'S COMMANDMENTS. Contrary to so many of the modern professing so-called "Christian" denominations in the world; David, whom God reveals was A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART [Acts 13:22] NEVER DID AWAY WITH GOD'S LAWS IN HIS MIND AND HEART, as so many modern denominations do, but PRAISED GOD'S LAWS IN THE LONGEST CHAPTER OF THE PSALMS!

And David found NO DISADVANTAGES in God's Commandments. Quite the opposite:

"OH, HOW I LOVE YOUR LAW! I think about it all day long. Your Commandments MAKE ME WISER THAN MY ENEMIES, for your Commandments ARE MY CONSTANT GUIDE. Yes, I HAVE MORE INSIGHT THAN MY TEACHERS, for I am ALWAYS THINKING OF YOUR DECREES. I am even wiser than my elders, for I HAVE KEPT YOUR COMMANDMENTS. I have refused to walk on any path of evil, that I MAY REMAIN OBEDIENT TO YOUR WORD." (Ps.119:97-101 NLT)

This Satan-guided world HATES God and His Laws [John 15:17-18). God is disadvantageous to Satan and his demons.

Human nature easily avoids coming to grips with the Truth of God's Word.... mostly by steering clear of it. It sees only through the deceived, blind eye of its darkened nature, that the Word of God, which includes His insistence on OBEDIENCE TO HIS LAWS, is disadvantageous to ponder, because a guilty conscience would be forthcoming.
