Thought there are many gifts which can be bestowed by the Holy Spirit, the most important is the gift to know that Jesus is the Christ, that He died that man might be redeemed from the fall. All others come second to this one.

All others gift are bestowed upon man as seen fit by a kind and loving Father in heaven. It is what we do with the gift so given that is important.

This passage tells us what we ought to expect from someone filled with the Holy Ghost - the ability to speak and be understood fluently in many different languages at the same time. Not merely babbling, or "speaking in tongues" but actually communicating in languages previously unknown to you but known to those present.
