Please note that I am a Bible-believing, nondenomination Christian. According to The Bible, (I will use the King James version as it is used by most Christian denominations), anointing comes from God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), and is used for cleansing, and was also given to the elders of a church body for healing purposes.

The word "anoint" in Hebrew means "overflow," and usually pertains to the use of oil, pouring it over a person's head.

In the Greek, the word anoint can mean "spread, rub, apply, or smear with." You may find these examples in: Exodus 28:41, Ruth 3:3, Matthew 6:17, Mark 16:1, Luke 7:46, and Revelations 3:18. These are only a few of the examples spoken of in the Bible.
