There are actually four branches of the Marianist Family but in the United States there are very few members of the fourth branch, Alliance Marielle. The three branches most common to the United States are the Lay Marianists, the Daughters of Mary (designated by the initials FMI and often called the Marianist Sisters), and the Society of Mary (often called SM or Marianists). The last two categories are religious women (FMI) and men (SM) who have taken the vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and stability.
