They write Hebrew. It is made up of 22 letters that are all consonants. The words and sentences are written and read from right to left. The letters all have different names and are pronounced differently, although some letters look and sound similar. It's not identical to the English alphabet, though there are interesting similarities, such as k l m n - kaf lamed mem nun; and q r s t - kof resh shin tav.

In ancient times there was also a Hebrew alphabet that had the same letters with different shapes. Some say that it was used only for non-Torah purposes (Talmud, Sanhedrin 22).
