I think this has been answered before: "Come forth and repent your sins, get baptised in the river Jordan."
Yes they did.
The main job of john the baptist was to make the people repent of their sins , and get baptized.
John the Baptist was in the wilderness to preach and prepare people for the coming of Jesus Christ.
John the Baptist baptized people in the Bible by immersing them in water as a symbol of repentance and spiritual cleansing.
John the Baptist preached his message of repentance and baptized people in the Jordan River.
John the baptist was his cousin. Although there was an other John people think he is the cousin of Jesus but he was not, but he was a deciple.
Actually, foretelling and forth telling are two different things. To foretell is to tell something of the future, yes. But to forth tell is to give a message from God; not specifically about the future; just something from God. i.e., Jonah and the Ninevites; John the Baptist telling people to repent.

hi
There are relics of John the Baptist in a number of churches throughout Europe. The strange thing is that about 5 or 6 churches claim to have the head of John the Baptist. Perhaps one is the head of John as a baby, one as a child, one as a teen and so forth?
Because he baptised Jesus.
John the Baptist's real name is simply "John." He is referred to as "the Baptist" because he baptized people, including Jesus, as a sign of repentance. In the context of biblical texts, he is often referred to as "John" without any additional names.
