According to Hindu religion all souls are pieces of the supreme conscious called Parmaatama or Shiva or Vishnu or Parbrahm. Every being that is born gets a portion of this supreme power in the form of consciousness and lives his/her life. After the death of the being this consciousness merges back again with the supreme consciousness or power called Parmaatama and according to the wish of this supreme consciousness it can take birth again in the form of some being on this earth. This cycle continues till eternity.

What is the soul the unites all souls?

Catholic AnswerThe Catholic Church certainly believes that all members of the Church are welded together by the Holy Spirit, who, technically speaking is the "soul" of the Church, as it is He who animates her in the same manner that our individual souls animate our bodies. Unlike the souls of plants and animals, the human soul is an immortal spirit and does not die when the body dies. However only the souls of the perfect are united with God at the end of time. Revelation teaches that most souls choose everlasting hell. It must be understood that this welding of the souls of the just with God is not the same kind of unity that, for instance, Buddhists or Hindus believe in.

How do most Hindus regard their journey through life?

Hindus of today are different from the earlier Hindus who followed the Sanatana Dharma. Those ancient Hindus regarded their journey of life to be one where they have to attain the goal of Moksha or Liberation. Today's Hindus are as lost as the rest of the world. We believe in many Gods with names and forms. We believe that we will go to heaven and hell, we believe in all the fairy tales like Santa Claus and a God with an elephant head. But most of the Hindus are in this unfortunate situation. There are a few Hindus who still believe in the original Upanishads and the Vedas which tell us we are not the body, we are not the mind, we are the Divine Soul, and to be liberated and united with God is our ultimate goal. This is how they live their life.
