What do the 4 evangelists did as work?

I assume that by the 4 evangelists you mean Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Matthew was an apostle of Jesus who gave his life to full time to ministry and following Jesus. Before that he was a hated tax collector for the occupying Roman authorities.

Mark was possibly John Mark, a colleague of Paul on his missionary journeys and a follower of jesus although he was not one of the 12 apostles. We are not told in scripture what his occupation was.

Luke was a Gentile ( a non-jew) who was a companion of Paul and a follower of Jesus although he had never met him. He was commissioned to write his account (and also the Book of Acts) by a sponsor Theophilus. Before this, Luke was a medical doctor. His gospel accounts reflect his interest in medicine as in Luke's account we hear of many of Jesus' healings.

John was the disciple to whom Jesus was closest. he was a brother to James and they were both sons of Zebedee. We are not told John's occupation and it is likely that he was little more than a young teenager when he met Jesus. This is born out by the fact that Zebedee was an active fisherman and, in the days when life expectancy was very low, he must therefore have been a relatively young, fit man. Therefore John was probably too young to have full tuime employment, although it is likely that, had he not met Jesus and become a full time evangelist for Jesus, he would have followed his father as a fisherman when he was old enough.
