Four:
The hard-packed soil of the "wayside" (which the "seed" cannot penetrate - Matthew 13:4);
The "stony" soil (where the plant can't establish a root - verse 5);
The "thorny" ground (where the desirable crop is overwhelmed by the worthless - verse 7);
And the "good ground" of verse 8, where the seed brings forth abundantly.
Jesus later explains to His disciples the spiritual implications of these mental images in verses 18-23.
In the parable of the sower, the four types of soil mentioned are rocky soil, thorny soil, shallow soil, and good soil.

The four regional categories of California's soils are coastal, foothill valley, desert, and mountain soils. Coastal soils are found near the ocean and are characterized by high organic content. Foothill valley soils are found in the inland valleys and support a variety of agricultural crops. Desert soils are found in the arid regions of the state and have low organic matter. Mountain soils are found in the higher elevations and are often rocky and less fertile.
Fertile soils, forests, fossil fuels and minerals.
The feeding of the 5000 is not a parable, but rather a miracle performed by Jesus as recounted in the Bible. It is a story where Jesus multiplied a few loaves of bread and fish to feed a large crowd of people as a demonstration of his divine power.
Digit four represents ones.
It shows us: - not everybody who hears the gospel will be saved. - some people will act like christian but are not really - the gospel (seed) 'grows' best when people (soil) have been prepared to receive it. That is they see they have a need for the gospel - they are sinners and face God's wrath. - a christian is expected to/should bear fruit. I think the most important thing for Christians in the parable is that the seed was planted in the soil that was prepared for it. That is where the farmer intended to plant the seed it was only by accident some seed fell on the path and among the rocks. So it is important to prepare people's hearts for the gospel - pre-evangelism - by showing them they have a need for the gospel. With out accepting the gospel they face God's wrath on the day of judgement.
