Amrit ceremony is not a ritual but is more of a commitment and it would be better that anyone taking amrit must be practicing it even before taking it as it would help to maintain the practice once a person has taken amrit. Once a person has taken amrit, a person is supposed to wake up early in the morning usually if not that early atleast at 4 a.m. and take bath and read and contemplete on the prayers as given by the tenth Guru of Sikhism. Also one has to become vegeterian that is not eating any meat, though if situation arises one can then eat meat, for example if there is certain medical condition that require protein. Otherwise a person eat vegeterian food, and put his or her effort towards living a life as instructed by the Sikh Gurus. Furthermore, one has to keep his/her hair and must not cut them at all.
