To 'covet' is to want something another person has...to desire what is forbidden, such as another person's possessions....or mates....
Coveting your neighbor's wife would be wanting her for yourself, which would be breaking God's law.(Matthew 5:27&28)(Matthew 19:5&6)
God warns against this human tendency:
(Exodus 20:17) "You must not desire your fellowman's house. You must not desire your fellowman's wife... nor anything that belongs to your fellowman."(Deuteronomy 5:21)
(Colossians 3:5) . . .Deaden, therefore, YOUR body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, andcovetousness, which is idolatry.
(Romans 13:8-10) . . .Do not YOU people be owing anybody a single thing, except to love one another; for he that loves his fellowman has fulfilled [the] law. For the [law code], "You must not commit adultery, You must not murder, You must not steal, You must not covet," and whatever other commandment there is, is summed up in this word, namely, "You must love your neighbor as yourself." Love does not work evil to one's neighbor; therefore love is the law's fulfillment. (Matthew 22:37-40)
(Mark 7:20-23)Further, he said: "That which issues forth out of a man is what defiles a man; for from inside, out of the heart of men, injurious reasonings issue forth: fornications, thieveries, murders, adulteries, covetings, acts of wickedness, deceit, loose conduct, an envious eye, blasphemy, haughtiness, unreasonableness. All these wicked things issue forth from within and defile a man."
It means to desire your nieghbours wife in a shameful matter
Ex:20:17: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. Covet means to wish for,or eagerly desire.
"... nor any thing that is thy neighbor's". Yes.
Covet means to desire that which belongs to someone else, as in "Thou salt not covet thy neighbor's wife nor thy neighbor's belongings."
It simply means that You should not sleep with your neighbor's wife because it is an act of Adultery
You use it like you would the word "desire" but with stronger feelings behind it. It is used biblically in the commandment "thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife" meaning that you should not lust after someone else's wife.
In Christianity the commandments that state, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" and "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife." would be the appropriate types of immorality. Other religions have their own criteria. It is mainly adultery , lust and divorce.
The first one that comes to mind "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, nor his field ... nor anything that is thy neighbor's."It's the 10th commandment.Covetousness is the sin of loving of the things of the world, and one of the ways this manifests itself is in envy. See 1 John 2:15
Exodus 20:17, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

IMO, the word "own" is the same as "thy" as in "Thou shalt not covet 'thy' neighbours wife". IMO, the word 'thy' here means their own tribesmen and in this particular case, the tribe of Israel. If The commandment is simply "Thou shalt not covet" then in my opinion, this is more universal. Because in some verses in the Bible, the Israelites not only coveted but actually took other tribesmen's wives (king David and Bathsheba) , and not only coveted, but plundered other tribesmen's goods. Numbers 31:1-54
The Seventh Commandment. Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery AND The Tenth Commandment. Thou Shalt Not Covet thy neighbors...anything! AND The First Commandment. Thou Shalt have NO other Gods before me.
